Ep. 20: Every contact leaves a trace

Iain Brunnschweiler Season 1 Episode 20

Hey Everyone,

Welcome to episode 20 of the Two Coach Confidence podcast. Our aim with this podcast is to bring fun and interesting guests from all areas and walks of life to share their knowledge, stories and experiences of this mystical and subjective topic we refer to as confidence.

In today's episode we are joined by Iain Brunnschweiler. Husband and Father of two, Iain is currently Coach & Player Development Manager for Southampton FC. A former semi professional footballer, five years as a professional cricketer, author of two cricket coaching books, a first class degree in Sport Science, Lead Coach of England Development Programme for six years, and 18 months as Strategic Lead for Talent & Performance Coaching at UK Coaching. It’s fair to say Iain has been in, and around elite and high performance athletes for a considerable amount of time.

In this episode, we talk about,

  • How Iain’s confidence has changed both personally and professionally, and now at the grand age of 40 he now feels fairly confident.
  • Iain shares how he has built strategies made up of three discrete areas, self talk, affirmations and remembering.
  • Iain talks about confidence as something that he has an internal relationship with.
  • We discuss the idea of understanding whether or not we have the resources to do what we want, and how this can impact confidence.
  • An idea that has come up in a previous episode shows up again, creating your own personal board of trusted advisors.
  • We delve into trying to get to know your own voice and why this can relate to developing a greater sense of confidence.
  • Iain shares his thoughts on having just enough confidence to give something a go.
  • The power of bringing any situation back to it’s basic context, and in most situations it’s not life or death.
  • We listen to Iain share openly about his emotions and feelings of nervousness when he became head of international cricket.
  • We discuss how naturally occurring challenges have supported Iain to develop his confidence.
  • One of our favourite areas to talk around crops up, the importance and idea of thinking about thinking.

Iain takes us on a real journey throughout this episode, we cover a significant amount of ground and touch on some wonderful ideas, content and stories. One thing we have been able to consistently share through the podcast is that confidence impacts everyone, regardless of stature, race, profession or background. We’ve all at some point realised we wish we had more of it, and wondered how to get more of it when we've needed it.

In order to support our community further we have recently created the Two Coach Confidence Facebook Group. Feel free to come and join the group using the link below.
